Living without the tube..

June 12th has come and gone quietly, like a thief in the night, and in this case I'm quite ok with the thievery. We opted not to be among those who bought a digital converter box in our area, only to discover that the only channel we get anyway is the CW, and seriously, who cares about that? They don't even show 'Buffy' reruns anymore.
Truth is, I haven't missed having TV, and figure I probably won't until ... maybe the next Olympic games? which the CW doesn't show anyway. No, since the death of the analog TV signal, the Lewis household has suddenly come alive with evening activities. I actually get the dishes done. I cooked a turkey, complete with stuffing and gravy (and it's not even Thanksgiving! It's so awesome!) And then there's the epic Risk tournament going on between my husband and I. The hour or so every night that we spend out in the garden. I could go on and on. Point is, we turned off that stupid box and now, suddenly, we have time to live. Craft projects that languished for months suddenly seem approachable, rather than overwhelming. And I bet I'll even find the time to start preparing the spare room for nursery duty.
It's sad to think of all the time wasted in the past on ridiculous TV shows that could otherwise have been spent so much more profitably and enjoyably. Sad, too, that it took the death of the analog signal and our trusty old rabbit ears to finally make us give the damn thing up. Today I thought about rearraning the furniture so that it's no longer TV-centric. But maybe that's just too crazy.

Oh Joy!

After an extended vacation from all things gemmy and crafty, I'm back! and so excited about it. I've been meaning to get back into the swing of creating for a while, and various things (including the terrible state of my studio space - aka the landfill) have kept me from it. I knew, though, that the time was at hand to brave the disaster and start creating again when I had a dream about cataloging all of my stones and toys, and realized that I have a whole stash of sweet new toys that I've not played with yet. And then today, I finally succumbed to my etsy addiction and picked up something fun fun fun that has totally fueled the creativity fires (drumroll please):

black druzy briolettes!

I'm not entirely sure what got me going about these, because usually I don't go for black stones (I've tried, really) but I'm picturing them with some oil-slick pearls and maybe some rutilated quartz? Or, that listing of amazing black labradorite I saw earlier...Yummmmmm..

Ship quickly, my little darlings!
